YOU BENEFIT BY SPONSORING MEMBER STUDENTS
Too few high schools actually provide their students with the technical theatre education needed in order to use their theatre facility in order to learn a career. Too many “one-person-show” Drama teachers struggle through as best they can when they aren't given the resources to provide them with an education in Technical Theatre, even putting students in hazardous situations, In addition, because schools don’t provide their students with trained professionals to provide for their education, too many instead decide to ban students from using the tools-of-the-trade in their facilities at all. Technical Theatre is vocational subject. If it is the intent that Technical Theatre students may one day make a career in the entertainment business, what is the point of schools turning a blind eye to an unsupervised education, expecting untrained teachers to provide a skilled education, or banning students using the tools-of-the-trade from their education altogether? By participating in the S.T.A.G.E. Corporate Sponsorship Program you will be identified as a company that supports tech theatre students, by making it possible for professional technicians and artists to provide a Technical Theatre education, supervision, and mentorship that students would not otherwise receive during their education. High school technical theatre students - our industry's future - need you to support this cause! |
YOU BENEFIT BY SPONSORING MEMBER TEACHERS
Almost every school that has a theatre facility has a Drama teacher to provide students with an education in performance. But, the majority of Drama teachers are acting, directing and literature specialists. Most have few technical qualifications beyond the requirements to take one or two introductory courses in order to earn their degrees. Yet universities represent them as qualified to teach Technical Theatre. And thinking that their Drama teachers are qualified to teach Technical Theatre, too often high schools require the “one-person-show” Drama teacher to provide an education in Technical Theatre for their students as a part of their duties. Requiring an acting teacher to also teach Technical Theatre is akin to requiring the social studies teacher to also teach welding. No school administrator would allow that to happen, yet they turn a blind eye when it comes to the school theatre. There are of course some “one-person-show” Drama teachers who can teach some Technical Theatre, but then too often they are not compensated for this extra work. The “one-person-show” Drama teachers need help, but they are provided with no or little funding to pay for professional technicians and artists. For these reasons, many “one-person-show” Drama teachers – through uncompensated time of their own, or through low-funded support – can only provide a low quality Technical Theatre education to their students. High school Drama teachers - who teach our industry's future - need you to support this cause! |
